I was hired as the TV Station Manager at Alexandria City Public Schools in June of 1998. During my tenure, I established, assimilated, and managed video content production and distribution systems to transmit messages consistent with our mission for more than 20 years.

As Producer and Manager, I charted the direction of the channels that I created, making sure that course furthered our objectives and mission, my work days were spent crafting and finessing our messages and the ways that we delivered them.

As the sole employee working full-time on ACPS-TV, I initiated and prepared budgets for the operation of the channel and facility.  That was followed up with bids and purchasing–channel electronics and equipment, studio hardware and furnishings, office supplies and operational gear.   I handled all electronics wiring to the point of distribution for the cable company, and I frequently fabricated the cabling.  I handled all production systems engineering, design, integration, and installation myself.

I was responsible for the continued operation and playback of all programming on the cable channel, 24/7/365.  I screened every program before telecast and I periodically acquired programming from outside sources for telecast, and vetted that programming through curriculum staff.  I managed content on our video servers, and scheduled all programming for playback.

I produced almost all of the programming that originated from ACPS’ Central Office.  I shot and  I cut.  I streamed.  Often live.

I created and updated a YouTube channel with ACPS programming.

I monitored Comcast’s compliance to their franchise obligations relating to ACPS regarding the cable television channel and programming, and acted as liaison with the municipality’s cable television officer.I directed and coordinated the work of more than a dozen Studio Coordinators and half a dozen contractors in ACPS schools, having  created their job descriptions for the positions that I had envisioned.  I arranged group meetings and training sessions for these coordinators, and I worked with these employees individually  training them one-on-one, and served as a resource as well as a first stop for technical issues or problems.

Finally, I designed and implemented a model to provide telecourse production and distribution, pivoting instruction to entirely remote learning during the Covid-19 pandemic closing of schools.  I conducted virtual training sessions for more than a hundred teachers and staff, and for months we produced three hours of new instructional programming content daily for students, delivered in 6 hour content blocks padded with new content acquired from producers throughout the country.
